Program summary: To recognize and reward outstanding African-American history themed essays written by young African Americans.
 
Eligibility and application details:  This is a literary award and is open to under privileged high school seniors and first year college students looking to further their education in Black History.  The award is in effort to promote educational growth in African-American history and literature.  The essays submitted should be between 500 and 1,000 words.  Every submission period, the topic of the essays changes; all themes will be in relations to African-American history/heritage.  All participants will also submit a brief bio with college and career plans.
 
Amount of award:  $250 towards college tuition fee for studies in African American History/Literature.  All winners and there winning essay will be posted here on Truth Theory for display.
 
Duration:  The competition is held semi-annually.
 
Subject focus:  African American History; Cultural Awareness; Promoting Writing Skills
 
Limitations:  Winners are limited to one submission per year.
 
 
Number awarded:  2 each year (1 in June and 1 in December)
 
Theme Anouncement Dates:  15 January and 15 July
 
Submission Periods:   February 1st to May 15th and August 1st to November 15th
 
Awards:  Paid to the attending college.
